Hey Baby, What's Your Numba

It is beyond frustrating to me that today's society seems to view beauty as a thing that only comes in a size 2, an idea that I couldn't agree less with.  It is my belief that beauty comes in every shape and size, not just toothpick-sized Amazon women.... Marilyn Monroe was a size 12 you know.  I find beauty in a woman's curves, scars, quirks..... it is our differences that make us all so beautiful.  I am proud to say that I am 5'5 and 135 pounds, very "average" for my size, and that I am beyond thrilled with who- and how- I am.  I do not long to look like a supermodel, or even the girl next to me in line at Starbucks.   Imagine how boring it would be if we all looked the same!  Whether you are a God-given size 2 or 12, it is important to love your body and appreciate how good it is to you, don't punish it because it is not what society tells you is "beautiful".  Gorgeous women come in every size and shape, they have scars and stretch marks, they are unique individuals with a beauty that is entirely their own.  It is my opinion that we as a culture really need to redefine what beauty means, and learn to appreciate the beauty of our differences.  Look at these women and tell me that beauty only comes in a size 2!

Tattoo

que sera, sera
I am torn..... For the longest time I have wanted to get a tattoo to honor  my grandmother, but I have been unable to decide which path to take.  I have consistently liked 2 ideas, but no matter what I try, I find myself ping ponging back and forth between the two.  Do I choose a quote from my favorite poem that I read at her memorial or do I choose the lullaby that both she and my mom used to sing to me when I was little.... It is hard to decide when both options mean so much to me and speak so clearly of our relationship.  Hopefully I will be able to reach a decision semi-soon, indecision is not my color.

Cute and Easy Updo

I really wish that I had a picture to share with you so that you could see just how stinkin' cute my hair looked for Ryan's company party.  Instead of turning my hair into a sea of waves a-la my last post, I decided to try something a little different to accompany my ultra-high high heels and retro-esque black shift dress. So there I was stalking Youtube and Pinterest for hair-spiration when BAM! I saw it- my perfect hairdo!  After next to no time at all I was able to master this style and I must say that I absolutely love it! It is super cute and super easy, trust me! This site, Running On Happiness, has a lot of really great ideas and step-by-step tutorials for hair and makeup, highly recommend it!  So next time you find yourself in a beauty rut ch-ch-ch-check it out!

Denim

If you are at all like me, you appreciate a good pair of jeans.  Ones that slim your thighs, lift your booty, taper your waist....you know what I am talking about.  For years I swore by overpriced "designer" denim, but lately I have begun to see the error of my ways.  As I grow up I have come to realize that my body is not going to stay the same as it was in high school, or shit, even undergrad, which means that my ultra skinny low-rise jeans are no longer my friends.  In fact, they are now my enemies.  I feel like I cannot sit down without my tushy falling out, and when you have as much booty as I do, this is simply not acceptable.  In light of this, I set out to find myself a good pair of jeans that are flattering, trendy, and would not break my student-sized bank account, and boy did I!  I cannot say enough about Urban Outfitter's denim selection, particularly their BDG brand.   Originally I bought their "Grazer Cigarette" style, and after damn near wearing a hole in them I decided to go back and buy more.  I found two very similar styles in "Cigarette Mid Rise" and "Grazer High Rise" and I cannot be happier.  You may be reading this saying "high rise Quinn, seriously? What are you, 95?" and the answer to that is no, I'm not 95, but I have wide hips, a big booty, and a small waist which means that I have an obscene amount of trouble finding jeans that do my body justice, and I found these styles to be ultra flattering on me.

My Battle with the Curling Iron

I consider myself a pretty capable lady, but if there is one thing that I absolutely cannot do it is curl my hair.  I mean, I CAN curl it, but not in any way that renders a moderately attractive look at the end.  *Sigh* I have tried hot rollers, foam curlers, curling irons, and straightener-as-curling iron and none of them seem to work.  After much effort (and youtube videos) I FINALLY found a tutorial that worked, praise Jesus.  So, if you have the same problem as me, don't be discouraged!  Ch-ch-check it out right here, or here, or here.
Alrighty, so here is the girl from the video and what her hair looks like, cute, right!

And here is what mine turned out like, and on the first try nonetheless! And yes, I am completely aware that I do not have any makeup on, my hair took a little more time than I planned!

So obviously these are a few pictures of the front and one of the back.  You can mess with your hair to get it to sit how you like, once you get it situated, hairspray the shit out of your hair and then you and your gorgeous locks are good to go!  Hope this tutorial is as helpful for y'all as it was for me! Happy Monday, off to class for me!

"For this is wisdom- to love and live, To take what fate or the gods may give, To ask no question, to make no prayer, To kiss the lips and caress the hair, Speed passion's ebb as we greet its flow, To have and to hold, and, in time let go"

Scarves

Anyone who knows me, or has ever seen me, knows that I am a HUGE fan of scarves.  Not only do they keep you warm, but they also serve as incredibly easy accent pieces for any outfit.  Whether I am dressing up in my Louis Vuitton signature scarf or throwing on my Forever 21 steal as I run out the door, scarves are the easiest way to jazz up any outfit.  I feel like I am always on the hunt for a new scarf, hence the reason that I have so many.  I find them everywhere- from T.J. Maxx to Gap to Louis Vuitton- they're everywhere.  Granted, we do not always have the budget to splurge, and in this case I highly recommend checking out your local Forever 21 or T.J. Maxx-esque store.  These stores always have a HUGE selection and they are always super reasonably priced.  I actually got my favorite scarf from Ryan for Christmas this year.  I was a Kappa Kappa Gamma at Ole Miss, so when I saw that Lilly Pulitzer came out with a "Kappa Kappa Gamma Murfree/Murfrette" scarf I began stalking it.  Little did I know that while I was stalking Lilly, Ryan was stalking my computer to see what I was spazzing about and he surprised me with it for Christmas! *Snaps* for being a great boyfriend, Ryan (...I know you read my blog too, right? RIGHT?!?!).   Anyways, here are a few scarves that I have accumulated through the years, but rest assured there are more to come!
My Scarf Collection....thus far :-)
Owls, keys and fleurs de lis!
My uncle made me a "Gus" scarf for Christmas, how cute is this!

Vacation

After 2 weeks of being on vacation, I was in dire need of a vacation from my vacation, a little something I like to call reality.  Classes ended on the 6th (4.0, go me) and I stayed in Kansas City for a few days before heading to St. Louis on the 19th.  Ryan came in the 21st and we spent the next day sight-seeing, followed by dinner at Tuckers.  Early Friday morning we left for Detroit, 8 hours later we finally arrived and were greeted by the whole Mack clan.  The next 2 days were a blur of family and food, after meeting over 25 relatives I am still trying to remember who is who!  We were supposed to visit my best friend in Milwaukee, but unfortunately she got sick, so we decided to head back to St. Louis a day early.  While in St. Louis we went to visit my eccentric uncle in Staunton and went to The City Museum.  Ryan and I were also lucky enough to be able to spend NYE with my high school friend, her boyfriend and some other girls. Such a great time! Needless to say that after 14 days of family, traveling, sight-seeing, and sleepless nights I am absolutely exhausted and beyond thankful to be sleeping in my own bed once again!

Hope you and your loved ones have a very happy & healthy New Year!
